When do the flights run?
The daily service runs from late October to April, which covers Guanacaste's dry season (December to April). United also has flights filed for the summer of 2027, but it had no flights from mid-September until September 26, 2026, so check late-summer and early-fall dates carefully. Southwest's Saturday flight covers the winter and spring-break months.

Both airlines fly from Denver International (DEN) to Liberia airport (LIR), branded Guanacaste Airport, 12 km west of Liberia town. It has one passenger terminal: immigration, baggage claim, customs, then out to the curb where drivers, shuttles and taxis wait.
Tips for flying from Denver
- Plan the first night around a mid-afternoon landing. By the time you're through customs it's late afternoon, which is fine for Coco, Papagayo, Flamingo or Tamarindo but leaves too little daylight for Nosara, Sámara or Santa Teresa.
- No nonstop that day? Connect. In the weeks United pauses, or on Southwest on a day other than Saturday, connect through Houston (United from IAH daily, Southwest from Hobby daily from November) or Dallas/Fort Worth (American).
- Allow for lines. Gate to curb usually takes 30 to 90 minutes, but on high-season Saturdays and Sundays, when several flights land in the early afternoon, allow 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
- Spring break fills up. Southwest adds Sunday flights in March and early April, and March 2026 was Liberia airport's busiest month on record.
